Factory system that is supposedly perfect. Not going to be dirty. Young single rural women sent there to work. They saw it as an opportunity to help their family and get out of the house. Many families were able to travel because they didn’t all have to work on the farm.

Growth of King Corn in the west

A

McCormick Reaper from 1830-1840 creates more creation of corn in the west. 1/2 acre –> 12 acres of corn a day. Need for more land. Farmers are now able to produce more corn and need more land so they take out more loans. Need east west routes because of expansion. Become cash crop farmers.
