Mark Stuff Flashcards
Describe the mechanism of action of ACEIs
Inhibit the catalyst ACE. converting Ang I to Ang II
- decrease vasoconstriction
- increase bradykinin
- aldosterone
What are the side effects of ACEIs
Hyperkalaemia
Hypotension
Dry cough
Angiodema
What does the HS do
Stability
Strongly interacts with Zn+
What does the Ch3 do
Fills hydrophobic pocket - increases selectively
What does the N double bond O do
Stability - less likely to be hydrolysed
What does the O- double bond O do
Binds to salt bridge of cation of enzyme
Describe the mechanism of action of BBs
Antagonists of noradrenaline and adrenaline
Decrease HR BP and neurohormonal activation
What are the side effects
Sexual dysfunction in males
Sleep disturbance
What is the NH2 double bond O do
Hydrogen bond to B2 - R
What does the benzene ring do
Mimic adrenaline - recognised by adrenergic receptors
What dose the chicken feet like structure does
Isopropyl b selectivity not a-r
What is 1st generation BBs
Propranolol - non selective
Cross BBB - cns effects headaches, dizziness
What is 2nd generation BBs
Atenolol- extra H bonding
Increase polarity on ring and reduce passage into BBB - decrease CNS effects
