Chapter 1

A
  • John the Baptist proclaims Jesus in the wilderness and baptized Him. God the Father declares that Jesus is His Son.
  • Mention of the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness.
  • He begins preaching in Galilee and calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John.
  • Teaches in the synagogue and casts out a demon. His fame begins to grow. He heals Peter’s MIL and others, and cleanses a leper.

Chapter 6

A
  • Jesus goes to Nazareth and isn’t believed on. Can do small healings only.
  • The twelve are given authority and sent to teach repentance.
  • John is killed by Herod.
  • Jesus’ disciples return, and the miracle of the loaves and fishes (feeding 5,000).
  • Jesus sends His apostles to the other side of the water and later walks on water after them.
  • Jesus heals many in Gennesaret.

Chapter 7

A
  • Pharisees/scribes ask why Jesus’ disciples are eating without washing their hands (tradition). Jesus rebukes them for teaching human tradition as doctrine. He points out part of their tradition (calling something Corban) that contradicts God’s word (5th commandment).
  • Jesus teaches that we can’t be defiled by things that go into us, but rather what comes out of us is what defiles us.
  • Jesus heals the Gentile woman’s daughter (dogs receiving the scraps from the table).
  • Jesus heals the deaf and dumb man.

Chapter 8

A
  • Jesus feeds the 4,000.
  • The Pharisees ask for a sign, and He denies it them.
  • Jesus cautions His disciples about the “yeast” of the Pharisees. They don’t understand.
  • Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah.
  • “Get behind me Satan!” We must set our minds on Godly (and not human) things. All is lost if we gain the whole world but lose our souls.

Chapter 9

A
  • “Some here will not taste death until the kingdom has come.”
  • The transfiguration.
  • Elijah (John) has already come.
  • The disciples fail to cast a demon out of a boy and Jesus does it. “Help thou my unbelief.”
  • Jesus says again that He’ll be killed and raised up in three days.
  • Whoever wants to be the first must be the last. If you welcome a little child, you welcome God.
  • Another was casting out demons in Jesus’ name. Jesus is okay with it, since “whoever is not against us is for us.”
  • Don’t cause little children to stumble and if something is causing you to stumble, get rid of it.

Chapter 10

  • We shouldn’t get divorces.
  • Jesus blesses the little children. We should receive the kingdom like they do.
  • The rich man.
  • Jesus again predicts His death and resurrection.
  • The request of James and John. Be servants to each other, not tyrants like the greats among the Gentiles.
  • The healing of blind Bartimaeus.

Chapter 11

A
  • Jesus enters triumphantly into Jerusalem (He sends His disciples for the colt).
  • He curses the fig tree. They come back later and it’s withered. The lesson is to have faith of God, and we can receive anything through the power of prayer.
  • Jesus drives the buyers/sellers from the temple, and the scribes and chiefs priests looked for a way to kill Him.
  • When praying, forgive so that God will also forgive your trespasses.
  • Jesus’ authority is questioned, and He repels their questioning with a question of His own.

  • The parable of the wicked husbandmen.
  • “Give to Caesar that which is Caesar’s.”
  • The Sadducees ask Jesus about marriage after death.
  • The first and second of all commandments.
  • The Messiah is before and greater than David.
  • The scribes because of their hypocrisy will receive greater condemnation.
  • The poor woman giving all that she had

  • Jesus prophesies the destruction of the temple.
  • Many will claim to be the Christ, and many bad things will happen, and the apostles will testify before many. False prophets also.
  • The parable of the fig tree.
  • All of the aforementioned things will be done before that generation had passed away.
  • You don’t know the hour, so watch.

A
  • Passover meal. Jesus is anointed by the woman.
  • Judas goes to the chief priests.
  • They go to the eating chamber, and Jesus declares that He will be betrayed.
  • Jesus institutes the sacrament.
  • Jesus declares that Peter and the rest will abandon Him.
  • He suffers in Gethsemane.
  • Jesus is betrayed by Judas. His disciples scatter, and He’s brought to the high priest.
  • False witness is borne, and He’s condemned.
  • Peter denies Christ three times.

Chapter 15

A
  • Jesus is brought before Pilate.
  • Pilate releases Barabbas to the people, and Jesus to be crucified.
  • Jesus is mocked and beaten by the guards.
  • Simon carries His cross.
  • Jesus is crucified. Lots are cast over His clothes.
  • Jesus is mocked by the bystanders and by those crucified with Him.
  • Jesus cries out on the cross (“why hast thou forsaken me”).
  • He cries out again, dies, and the veil of the temple is rent.
  • Joseph of Arimathea requests the body of Jesus from Pilate. He places Jesus in his tomb.

Chapter 16

A
  • Mary and Mary go to anoint Jesus’ body in the tomb. They find it empty.
  • An angel is there, and he tells them that Jesus is risen, and they need to go tell Peter and the disciples that Jesus is risen and will meet them in Galilee.
  • They go out afraid (THIS IS THE SHORT ENDING OF MARK).
  • The women tell the disciples, who don’t believe.
  • He appears to two disciples, who tell the others who don’t believe.
  • Jesus appears to the rest of them and reprimands them for their unbelief. He tells them to preach baptism and gives the signs that they can give.
  • He ascends to Heaven, and the disciples go off preaching and giving signs.
