What?
Project that will harvest surplus water available during the rainy season in rivers in southern Rajasthan such as Chambal and its tributaries including Kunnu, Parvati, Kalisindh.
Features
- will supply drinking water to 13 districts
- supply water to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor
- will take care of the flood and drought situation in the area.
- network of water channels which will cover 23.67 per cent area of Rajasthan along with 41.13 per cent population of the state.
Why needed
-Rajsthan largest state(10.4% area of india) -> has 1.16% of india’s surface water.

Benefits of national project status?
90 % of the funding for the project will be given by the central government.
Criteria for selection as national project
- If project Included in international treaty
- necessary in the interest of the country.
- Inter-State projects which are dragging on due to nonresolution of Inter-State issues
