Q

macrodontia?

Q

accentuated palatal pit?

A

this occurs especially in lateral incisors and happens on the palatal (obviously) side of the tooth

Q

dens invaginatus

A
  • this translates to tooth within a tooth
  • it is an invagination that is lined with enamel

type 1 - occurs just in the enamel

type 2-goes below CEJ

type 3- extends into the root and perforates in the apical or lateral areas but doesnt interfere with the pulp (*this type can get nasty and you can get bacteria and other gross stuff extending from the tooth)

Q

dens evaginatus

A
  • outward growth of enamel
  • often seen as a little point in the middle of the occlusal surface
  • often has a small piece of pulp in it (so you have to be careful and cant just grind/cut it off)

Q

talon cusp

A
  • looks like an extra cusp/outpouching of enamel, need to be careful with it since it has pulp going into it
  • if on the palatal side of tooth often just leave it

Q

hypercementosis

A
  • extra cement on tooth roots
  • seen as thickening/blunting of roots
  • it is all contained within the lamina dura (this is a way to tell it apart from other things)

Q

gemination

A

when a single tooth bud tries to divide

still lead to a normal tooth count

9
Q

fusion

A

this is in contrast to gemination, this is when teeth are fused together, leads to a decrease in the tooth count, on a radiograph you would see fusion or 2 teeth with separate roots

Q

taurodontism

A

Taurodontism is a condition found in the molar teeth of humans whereby the body of the tooth and pulp chamber is enlarged vertically at the expense of the roots. As a result, the floor of the pulp and the furcation of the tooth is moved apically down the root

often in 1st permanent molars

Q

supernumerary teeth

supplemental teeth

A

supernumerary teeth - teeth in addition to the normal tooth count

supplemental teeth - a kind of supernumerary tooth where it can be hard to distinguish which is extra and which is the proper tooth

Q

gardners syndrome

A
  • someone with this would have impacted teeth, supernumerary or missin tooth and abnormal root formationdense bone islands of the jaw
  • also show multiple
  • it is relevant to us because if we could identify it we could refer them for a colonoscopy because this a condition highly associated with colon cancer

Q

hypodontia

A

missing part of your grillz (missing teeth)

-roy has this

17
Q

enamel pearl

A

small globules of enamel often on roots in the furcation area

formed from hertwigs epithleia root sheath

contain pulp so dont just chop em off

18
Q

amelogenesis imperfecta

A

genetic mutation where enamel is messed up and doesnt develop properly (but other parts of tooth are fine)

-delayed eruption and prone to impaction

19
Q

enamel hypoplasia

A

defect in teeth which enamel is hard but is thin and deficient in amount

20
Q

dentinogenesis imperfecta

dentin dysplasia type 1?

A

genetic conidtion where there is dentin dysplasia

leads to weak teeth that get easily fractured and are discoloured

type 1 dentin dysplasia is basically your worst nightmare, teeth look normal but there is no roots and htye get rarefying osteitis and their teeth can pretty much just fall out

21
Q

odontodysplasia

A

aka ghost teeth

dentin is hypoplastic and hypocalcified

often causes delayed eruption and is common in central incisors

22
Q

pulp stones

A

calcification in the pulp

this is very common and you dont really need to do anything about it

can only be diagnosed on a radiograph
