Who is Cardiac Rehabilitation for?
A
Patients Recovering From:
- Myocardial infarction (MI)
- Heart surgery such as bypass, ventricular assist device (VAD), valve repair
- Minimally invasive procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, valve replacement
- Risk factors such as CAD or angina
- Heart Failure

What are the benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation?
A
- Improve circulation
- Improve cholesterol profiles
- Improve work capacity
- Weight control
- Reduce anxiety
- Decrease mortality rate

What can CR not do?
A
- Cannot limit atherosclerotic process (goals - stabilize or reduce atherosclerosis)
- Cannot decrease myocardial ischemia
- Little effect on ejection fraction
- Cannot reverse effects of lung disease such as COPD

What are Indications for CR?
A
therapy follow initial acute phase, patient is relatively medically stable evidenced by
- Stable angina (no pain for at least 8 hours)
- Control of dangerous dysrhythmias (v-tach)
- Control of myocardial insufficiency
- Labs trending toward normal
- Compensated CHF
- s/p Cardiac Surgery

What are Contraindications for CR?
A
- Unstable angina
- Dangerous arrhythmias
- Uncompensated CHF
- Embolism
- Metabolic instability (poor diet or uncontrolled diabetes)
- Critical Labs
