Maneuvers Flashcards

1
Q

Turns around a point procedure

A

Procedure:
GUMPS check
clear the area (describe)
Select a reference point
Distinct with emergency field (intersection, water tower, barn, etc.)
Position for entry
Select radius of circle (how far away is the point from the plane)
Be 600”-1000” AGL
Determine wind, Enter on a downwind
Abeam the reference begin the turn
In the turn
Adjust the bank for varying groundspeed.
Adjusting heading for crab angle into wind
Higher ground speed makes steepest banks
Downwind abeam the pointn(entry point)
Slowest ground speed makes shallowest bank
Upwind abeam the point
Don’t exceed 45 degrees of bank (too close, adjust)
Exiting the maneuver
After second circle is complete recover from maneuver where you entered

Q

MCA procedure

A

Procedures:1500 AGL
GUMPS
Clearing turns
Carb Heat if applicable
Reduce power to 1500 RPM
Maintain altitude with pitch to slow airspeed
Drop flaps below VFE
When approaching lower airspeed use power for altitude and pitch for airspeed
Slow to the stall warning horn, note airspeed and maintain

Recovery:
Full throttle
Carb heat off
Reduce pitch
Maintaining wings level
Flaps to 20 degrees
Flaps retract 10 at time
Return to cruise setting

Q

Steep turns procedure

A

Procedures:
1.) Enter on a cardinal heading or prominent reference point
2.) Entry speed at Va
3.) Establish bank 40-50 degrees or 50 for commercial
4.) As bank increases, increase back pressure
5.) As maximum bank happens, add power to maintain speed
6,) Use pitch to maintain altitude, along with bank angle
If starting to descend, decrease bank to gain vertical component of lift back
7.) Use rudder for coordination throughout maneuver
8.) Fly specified amount of 360 degree turn
9.) Begin roll out about ½ degrees of bank angle
10.) Reduce power to maintain airspeed as roll out and level flight begins
11.) Begin next 360 degree turn

Q

Lazy 8s procedure

A

Procedure: Above 1500 ft AGL
Gumps
Clearing turns
Clean configuration that is established below Va
Pick points 45, 90, and 135 degrees reference points off heading
Start pitching up and then add bank
At 45 degree ref point/heading change be at 15 degrees bank and max pitch up (17 degrees)
Increasing bank and decreasing pitch
At 90 degrees be 30 degrees bank and nose level (sweeping through horizon)
Decrease pitch and decrease angle of bank
At 135 degree max pitch (-10 degrees) low and 15 degrees angle of bank
At 180 degree point level pitch and angle of bank is zero (straight and level)
Arrive at same airspeed and altitude as entry and repeat immediately in opposite direction

Q

Chandelles procedure

A

Procedure: 1500 AGL
Gumps Clearing turns
Clean configuration at cruise speed.
Roll 30 degrees angle of bank
Full throttle and pitch up
First 90 degrees, constant angle of bank and increasing pitch
Second 90 degrees, constant pitch, decrease angle of bank
Max pitch is around 15-20 degrees
At 180 degree point we are at MCA and wings should be level
Holdd a few seconds and recover with no altitude loss or gain

Q

Steep spirals procedure

A

Procedures: Must stay above 1500 AGL
Gumps and Clearing turns
Climb to altitude to complete three turns(roughly 2000 feet to complete)start around 5000 ft MSL Pick safety field
At starting altitude power idle pitch for Best Glide(68)
At or into the upwind, directly into us
Circle over reference points not exceeding 60 degrees of bank
After one rotation clear engine(add a couple hundred RPMs)
Repeat two more
Recover to straight and level

Q

8s on pylons procedure

A

Procedures:
GUMPS
Clearing turns
Have pivotal altitude calculated
Choose two pylons perpendicular to the wind to enter on 45 to downwind
Enter 45 to downwind and maintain the pylon on the reference axis. If the pylon is ahead of reference, descend. IF behind, climb to capture pivotal altitude
Less than 40 degrees of angle of bank

HIGH GROUNDSPEED, HIGHER ALTITUDE( DOWNWIND)
LOWER GROUNDSPEED, LOWER ALTITUDE( TURNING INTO WIND)
Keeping lateral axis in line with the pylon
