Maneuvers Flashcards
All-Altitude Upset Recovery Strategy (AAURS)
RECOGNIZE
CONFIRM
VERBALIZE
RECOVER
“UPSET - RECOVER”
- Push
- Roll
- Power
- Stabilize (don’t forget SPEEDBRAKES)
Upset parameters:
- Pitch > 25 degrees nose up
- Pitch > 10 degrees nose down
- Bank angle greater than 45 degrees
- Within above parameters but an inappropriate airspeed
FCTM 7.7
Rejected Takeoff Notes
- Even with RTO selected on the ground, max braking will not initiate unless the wheel speed is above 90kts. Aka if you reject before 90kts, you have to manually brake, the autobrakes won’t kick in.
- Use manual braking below 90kts
- If a takeoff is rejected before the THR HLD annunciation (at 80kts), the A/T should be disconnected as the thrust levers are moved to idle. Otherwise the thrust levers will advance to the takeoff thrust position again.
- Once the takeoff roll has begun, any movement of the thrust levers towards idle requires the crew to accomplish an RTO.
- After an RTO, complete any non-normal checklists and refer to QRH section 0 - post RTO considerations
VOL 2/ 14.2.4.5.1 & FCTM 3.8.1
Rejected Takeoff Procedure
- “ABORT, I’VE GOT IT”
- Close thrust levers
- Disengage A/Ta
- Apply max manual brakes or verify operation of RTO autobrakes
- Apply maximum reverse thrust (consistent with condition)
Note Captain has option to manually deploy SPEEDBRAKES prior to thrust reverse. - Verify operation of the SPEEDBRAKES or extend SPEEDBRAKES if not deployed
- Continue max braking until certain airplane will stop on runway then clean up
- As soon as practical, make appropriate RTO PA in accordance with the FOM (11.2.5)
- “THIS IS THE CAPTAIN. WE HAVE DISCONTINUED THE TAKEOFF. PLEASE REMAIN SEATED WITH YOUR SEATBELTS FASTENED.” (Also RTO with evacuation) - Complete any non-normal checklists and refer to QRH section 0 - post RTO considerations
FO
- Try to note brakes on speed for brake cooling
- Verify all the actions
- “SPEEDBRAKES UP or NO SPEEDBRAKES”
- “80 KNOTS”
- Tell tower of abort
- As soon as practical make sure captain does RTO PA
- Complete any non-normal checklists and refer to QRH section 0 - post RTO considerations
FCTM 3.8.1 & QRH NNC.0.11
Rejected Landing
A go around initiates after the MAP or below MDA/DA.
FCTM 6.6.7
Bounced Landing Recovery
Maintain normal landing attitude and control descent rate with thrust. Only need to go around if it was a high and hard bounce.
FCTM 6.6.6 😈
CFIT Terrain Avoidance Maneuver
Accomplish the maneuver anytime you hear “PULL UP” and other words with that.
- Disconnect A/P
- Disconnect A/T
- Aggressively apply maximum* thrust
- Simultaneously roll wings level and rotate to an initial attitude of 20 degrees nose up
do not use flight direction commands - Level wings for max performance unless you need to avoid taller terrain
- RETRACT SPEEDBRAKES (always forgotten)
- If terrain remains a threat, continue rotation up to the PLIs or stick shaker or initial buffer
- Do not change configuration until clear of terrain
- Monitor RA for increasing terrain separation
- When clear of terrain, decrease pitch attitude, accelerate and clean up
PM
- Assure maximum thrust
- Verify required actions have been completed and call out any omissions
- Monitor V/S and RA for terrain clearance
- Call out any trend toward terrain contact
