Symphyseal cartilage
A
Appears after the coronoid cartilage and disappears by the end of the 1st year after birth.
They are 2 in number, appear within the mesenchyme separating the 2 Meckel’s cartilage but are totally independent of it.
They undergo endochondral ossification and give rise to:
Symphysis of the mandible which enlarge and fuse within the 1st year of life.
