Mandible Structure Flashcards
Oblique Line
A crest extending from the the ramus to the main body
- provides insertion point for the depressor anguli oris muscle
Mental Foramen
An opening located inferior to the second mandibular premolar tooth
- provides passage for the mental nerve and vessels
Mental Protuberance
A bony prominence at the midline of the mandible body
Rambus
Vertical part of the mandible
- point at which is unties with the the body is called the angle
Condylar Process
Posterior process of the rambus
- has an articulator surface (the condyle)
- the mandible articulates with the articular tubercle of the temporal bone to form the TMJ (temporomandibular joint)
Coronoid Process
Anterior process of the rambus
- features the temporal crest
- serves as an attachment point for the temporalis muscle
Mandibular Notch
The incisure between the processes
- crossed by the masseteric nerve and vessels
Internal Surface
Sublingual Fossa (black): depression located superior to the mental spines on the midline hosting sublingual glands
Submandibular Fossa (blue): a paired depression on each side of the mental spines which hosts submandibular glands
Retromolar Triangle (red): hosts area for retromolar pad
