always supervise the child, to ensure they have no accidents - especially around possible hazards e.g water or using tools.
environmental safety
create a safe environment by removing possible hazards - includes securing furniture, covering outlets, remove choking hazards, ensure play equipment are free from sharp objects e.g damaged toys and toxic substances.

British kitemark- shows it meets british standards
Knife and Fork symbol- non toxic and food safe playing
CE- meets EU safety
0-3 cross symbol - hazardous for 0-3 year olds
British lion mark - safe and good quality

What is a risk?
likelihood of an environment activity , activity and or resource causing harm
What is a hazard
Potential for an environment activity and or resource causing harm
What other risks / hazards can there be in a nursery setting?
Resources - safe? age appropriate? stored safely? clean and hygienic?
Outdoor area - sandpits? (clean, checked for debris, in correct area?) stored area? shaded areas for a hot day? undercover area for a wet day? climbing area ( safe height, nothing underneath)
Fire drills - does the child know where to go? do they know the correct fire exit door?
