UTI - (EXAM Q)
- Don’t give nitro to women last (3rd) trimester of pregnancy

C.diff (EXAM Q)
Main 3 lines:
1st oral - Vancomycin
2nd line oral - Fidaxomicin
ALT - Specialist - Vancomycin again or IV metronidazole

Relapse:
<12 weeks - Fidaxomicin
>12 weeks - Vanco or Fida

Life threatening - Straight to specialist.

Acute pyelonephritis (EXAM Q)
NON pregnant:
Oral 1st line - Cefalexin or Ciprofloxacin
IV 1st line - Amikacin, Gentamicin Ceftriaxone, Cipro

Pregnant:
Oral 1st line - Cefalexin
IV 1st line - Cefuroxime

Impetigo (EXAM Q)
Topical Hydrogen peroxide 1%
ALT Fusidic acid 2%

Animal bites (EXAM Q)
Co-Amoxiclav
ALT Doxycycline + Metronidazole

i.e. Remember food poisoning stuff but get familiar with MRSA/Colitis.

Anaerobic infections (places of less oxygen contact ie genitals) - Metronidazole

Streptococci infections (mainly ENT) - Phenoxymethylpenicillin

Staphylococci infections - Flucloxacillin

MRSA - Vancomycin

Pseudomonas aeruginosa - Gentamicin
