Malignant Disease / Immune System Flashcards
Outline Mycophenolate contraception rules
- 2 forms must be used by patient until 6 weeks after stopping therapy
- Partners of patients should use contraception until 90 days after treatment stopped.
Which cytotoxics cause permanent male sterility
- Alkylating agents
- Procarbazine
Which cytotoxics commonly cause oral mucositis
- Anti-metabolites
- Anthracyclines
Which cytotoxic causes urothelial toxicity and how is this treated?
- Cyclophosphamide
- Treated with MESNA
Bone marrow suppression is caused by all cytotoxics except which two drugs
- Bleomycin
- Vincristine
How is bone marrow suppression treated?
- Broad spectrum abx and filgrastim for fever
- RBC infusion or erythropoietin for anaemia
How is hyperuricaemia treated in blood cancer?
-Raburicase
Which cytotoxics are mildly emetogenic?
-Anti-metabolites and Vinca alkaloids
Which cytotoxics are moderately emetogenic?
-Taxanes, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, high dose MTX
Which cytotoxics are highly emetogenic?
-Cisplatin, high dose cyclophosphamide
How is anticipatory nausea and vomiting treated?
-Lorazepam
How is acute nausea and vomiting treated?
- dexamethasone and lorazepam if mild
- 5HT3Ag + aprepitant + dexamethasone if severe
How is delayed nausea and vomiting treated?
-Dexamethasone and 5HT3Ag (mild) or aprepitant (severe)
Describe anthracyclines
- End in “rubicin”
- Cause cardiotoxicity and red urine
- Liposomal doxorubicin reduces cardiotoxicity but causes hand and foot syndrome
- These drugs are radiomimetics
Describe antineoplastic antibiotics
- Bleomycin
- Can cause pulmonary fibrosis
- Hypersensitivity or dermatological toxicity can occur, prevented by IV hydrocortisone
- These are radiomimetics
