Male Reproductive System - Rat (L4) Flashcards
Testes
Sperm cells are produced in testes, dual ovoid cells located in the scrotum.
Scrotum
A small sack, a body cavity, exterial and caudal to the abdominal cavity.
Epididymus
After being produced in the testes, sperm are moved here– temporary internal storage sacks adjacent to the testes. During reproduction, muscles in both right and left epididymes move the sperm up the two vas deferens, into the abdominal cavity.
Vas deferens
Spermatic chords. Sperm is moved by the 2 epididymes through the vas deferens into the abdominal cavity.
Making semen
Sperm is moved by the 2 epididymes through the vas deferens into the abdominal cavity, where it mixes with different fluids from the prostate, the vesicular gland, and the coagulating gland.
Urethra/penis
During sexual reproduction, semen will be ejaculated through the urethra of the male’s penis (into the vagina of the female rat).
The penis leads from the abdominal cavity to teh outside.
