A

Hyponatraemia & water intoxication caused by XS fluid absorption from open prostatic sinusoids

Makes the body go into:

1) Transient hypertension
2) Bradycardia

4) Altered mental state
5) Vomiting

7) Coma

TURP syndrome prevention?

A

1) Limit procedure to <1hr
2) Height of container to irrigate must be low - to reduce hydrostatic pressure going into prostatic veins
3) Prevent blood loss/hypotension/capsular perforation during procedure
4) Use glycine for irrigation (hypoosmolar)
