Male reproductive histology Flashcards
Spermatogonia SA
most immature cell, found at basal lamina, undergo mitosis
large round/oval nuclei
Spermatogonia SB
Near basal lamina, slightly closer to lumen, undergo mitosis, committed to spermatogenesis
Dispersed chromatin, prominent nucleolus
1º spermatocyte
large nucleus, large clumps of chromatin, copius cytoplasm, moving towared adlumenal compartment. Undergo meiosis I.
2º spermatocyte
rapidly dividing, not usually seen. Undergo meiosis II.
spermatid
close to lumen, dense, round nucleus
spermatozoon
near lumen, dense, pointed nucleus
basal compartment
spermatogonia
adlumenal compartment
spermatocytes
lumenal compartment
spermatids and spermatozoa
Leydig cell
andrgen-producing (primarily testosterone). Outside of seminiferous tubule, polygonal, eosinophilic
cytoplasm contains: lipofuscin (brown), crystals of Reinke (pink)
