Male reproductive anatomy Flashcards
Explain the anatomy of the Testes
Testes lies in a pouch that is thin skinned, rugs and pigmented known as the scrotum.
Left testis lies lower than the right.
Each testis is covered by white fibrous capsule called tunica Albuginea
Does the scrotum skin contain subcutaneous fat
No it contains dartos muscle
Explain the external spermatic fascia
Fascia that covers the testis , epididymus, spermatic cord and vessels
Explain the structure of the testes
Each testis is divided into lobules each containing seminiferous tubules that are the site of spermatogenesis.
What do the seminiferous tubules anastomose into
Seminiferous tubules become straight tubules that anastomose into Rete testis plexus
What arises from the rete testis
12 efferent ducts that pierce into the tunica albuginea and go into the head of epididymus
Explain the capsule of the testis
1- Tunica vaginalis : made of parietal outer layer, cavity and visceral layer
2- Inner tunica albuginea capsule
Explain the blood supply and drainage of the testis
- Receive blood from the testicular artery coming off the abdominal aorta.
- Each testis drains into pampiniform vein plexus that becomes the testicular vein
Where does the right and left testicular veins drain into
Right : inferior vena cava
left: left renal vein
Explain the anatomical position of the Epididymis
Located along posterior border of Testis.
What is the purpose of the epididymis
site of sperm storage and maturation until ejaculation
Explain the structure of the Epididymis
Divided into head, body and tail. Tail is continuous with vas deferens
Explain the structure of the spermatic cord
3 fascia layers :
1- External spermatic fascia
2- Cremasteric fascia
3- Internal spermatic fascia
The layers of the spermatic cord arises from what
Aponurosis of internal and external oblique and transversals fascia
What does the spermatic cord contain
1- testicular artery , cremasteric artery , artery of vas
2- pampinofrom vein plexus , cremasteric vein , vein of vas
3- nerve to cremaster muscle , simpatico fibres and ilii-inguinal nerve
4- vas deferens and lymphatic vessels
