What muscles make up the pelvic floor?

A

Formed by coccygeneus and levator ani muscles

Leavtor ani divided into:

  • Iliococcygeus (supplied by direct branches from S3,4)
  • Tubo-coccygeus which is subdivided into pubo-rectalis (posteriorly) or vagianlis, prostaticus or urethracalis (also supplied by direct branches from S3 and 4)

Why is pelvic bowl important?

A

For support of viscera and maintenance of urinary and faecal continence, weakness may cause incontinence and prolapse

Essentially the external urethral sphincter and deep transverse perineal muscles withthe urethra and vagina passing through

Spermatic cord contents

A
  • Testicular vessels - artery and pampiniform plexus of veins
  • Artery to vas deferens
  • Cremasteric artery and vein
  • Vas deferens
  • Lymph from testes
  • Closed remnant of processus vaginalis
  • genital branch of genitofemoral nerve (supplies cremaster muscle)
  • Symp efferents and afferents to and from the testis
  • Ilio-inguinal nerve
