Male Histology Flashcards
List the order of spermatogenesis
Spermatogoinium–>primary spermatocyte–>secondary spermatocyte–>spermatids
What is the tunica albunginea
Dense fibrous capsule that surrounds the testis. Its interlobular septa divides the testes into 250 pyramidal compartments/testicular lobules
What is the pathway of sperm?
Testis (seminiferous tubules)–>rete testis–>efferent ducts–>epididymis–>vas deferens–>ejaculatory duct (joins with seminal vesc–>prostate–>urethra
Myoid cells
Smooth muscle-like cells that adhere to the basal lamina and help propel the sperm from the seminiferous tubules to the rete testis
Rete testes
Where the seminiferous tubules converge
TEX14
Must be present in order for developing spermatogonia to remain connected to each other by cytoplasmic bridges.
Spermatogonia
Stem cells committed to meiosis
Primary spermatocytes
Diploid, 4C
Secondary spermatocytes
Primary undergo meiosis I to produce secondary (haploid, 2C)
Spermatids
Secondary undergo meiosis 2 to produce spermatids (haploid, 1C)
Spermatozoa
Early spermatids undergo spermiogenesis to become spermatozoa
