Male Anatomy Flashcards
What are the contents of the spermatic cord?
Testicular artery, artery to ductus deferens and cremaster artery.
Genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve, cremaster nerve and sympathetic fibres.
Lymphatics, ductus deferens, pampiniform plexus.
What covers the spermatic cord?
External spermatic fascia, cremaster muscle and fascia, internal spermatic fascia.
What is the duct system of the testes and what type of epithelium can be found in each?
Seminiferous tubules - sertoli cells - tall simple columnar.
Rete testes
Efferent ductules - ciliated columnar.
Epididymis - pseudostratified columnar with stereocilia.
What cells are found in the testes?
Sertoli cells
Spermatogonia
Leydig cells
Peritubular myoid
What tissue comprises the penis?
Corpus cavernosum (2) Corpus spongiosum
What artery supplies the penis?
Internal pudendal artery.
What veins drain the penis?
Superficial and deep dorsal veins.
What lymph nodes drain the testes?
Para-aortic nodes.
What lymph nodes drain the scrotum?
Inguinal nodes.
What secretions does the seminal vesicle produce?
Alkaline viscous fluid - neutralise acid
Fructose - ATP production
PGs - sperm mobility and viability
Clotting factors - keep semen in female tract
What epithelium comprises the seminal vesicle?
Pseudostratified columnar
What comprises the ejaculatory duct?
Seminal vesicle duct and ductus deferens.
What epithelium type forms bulbourethral glands?
Columnar epithelium.
What epithelium is found in the ductus deferens?
Pseudostratified columnar stereociliated epithelium.
What muscle layers make up the ductus deferens wall?
Outer longitudinal, middle circular and outer longitudinal.
