male anatomy Flashcards
where does spermatogenesis occur?
testis
what happens in the seminiferous tubules?
sperm production and development
what each tubule lined with
basement membrane beneath= layer of germinal epithelial cells= spermatogonia
what each tubule lined with
basement membrane beneath= layer of germinal epithelial cells= spermatogonia
spermatogonia??
diploid, divide by mitosis– regularly produce more germinal epithelial cells
how are primary spermatocytes formed?
the enlargement of spermatogonia
primary oocytes
they divide by meiosis
first division= 2 secondary spermatocytes
second division= 4 spermatids
sperm development?
Spermatids attach to Sertoli cells,
also called nurse cells.
what do sertoli cells do?
assist in the differentiation of immature
spermatids into spermatozoa by providing nourishment.= develop tail
where do mature sperm go after detaching from sertoli cells
carried down lumen of tubule to epididymis
where are sperm stored after maturing?
the epididymis
what hormone stimulates meiosis?
FSH– stimulates meiosis in
spermatocytes, to produce haploid cells
what does testosterone do?
stimulates the maturation of secondary spermatocytes into mature sperm cells
what hormone stimulates the secretion of testosterone?
LH
ejaculation of sperm includes?
semen– a nutrient – rich fluid
