they came up to his home, holding weapons, and asked for his father to come out. on a separate occasion, they smashed all of the house’s windows. later, they burned Malcolm’s family’s house to the ground.
Earl little’s death and effect on Louise
Earl was found dead lying across street car tracks. Malcolm’s family believed it was a white supremacist attack. Louise was left in grief and shock so she was put in a mental hospital where she remained for 26 years.
Mason High School
Malcolm was one of few Black students. He excelled in grades and was well-liked by his classmates who elected him class president. His English teacher asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up so he said a lawyer. his teacher called it unrealistic and recommended he should be a carpenter. Malcolm was mad so he dropped out.
life in boston
he moved to Boston to live with his older half sister. he had a few jobs but fell into the dark side of Boston and started selling drugs.
6 1/2 years in prison
he was charged with theft and sentenced to 10 years in jail. while in jail he read constantly to make up for dropping out of school.
Black nationalism
the idea that in order to secure freedom, justice, and equality, Black Americans need to establish their own state separate from white Americans.
Nation of Islam
a small sect of black Muslims who embraced black nationalism.
Elijah Muhammed
he was the leader of the Nation of Islam. he lost Malcolm’s trust because he broke his own rules.
“by any means necessary”
it means you will do whatever you must to get what you want.
Civil Rights Involvement
He was a leading voice in the civil rights movement and had an alternative style to MLK’s in which he used violence

he realized that violence isn’t the answer and that America is the first country that could have a bloodless revolution.
