What are malaikah? (2)
Angels - God’s heavenly messengers that act as a channel of His truth
“Allah…made the angels messengers”
Describe the nature of angels. (4)
- No free will but instead have a natural obedience to the will of God and no desire to sin
- God’s first creations; made out of light (a form of energy)
- No permanent physical bodies, but can take on human forms
- Qur’an describes them as male winged beings
Name 8 key angels.
- Jibril (Gabriel)
- Mika’il (Michael)
- Israfil (Raphael)
- Azrail
- Raqib and Atid
- Munkar and Nakir
Explain the role of angel Jibril. (2)
- Archangel of revelation - God’s channel of divine revelation
- Interprets God’s will and communicates messages to Allah’s chosen ones e.g. revealing the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad on Layat-al-Qadr
Explain the role of angel Mika’il. (2)
- Archangel of mercy, provisions and spiritual nourishment; known as a friend to humanity - e.g rain
- Responsible for keeping the devil out of hell and protecting faithful worshippers
Explain the role of angel Israfil. (1)
Archangel who will blow the trumpet on the D.o.J to announce the resurrection of the dead
Explain the role of angel Azrail. (1)
Archangel of death that takes human souls
Explain the role of angels Raqib and Atid (1)
“Noble recorders” who sit on each shoulder of a person recording their good and bad deeds

Angels responsible for testing people’s faith through questioning their souls after death.
