A

A progressive small intestinal disorder. Occurs in residents or visitors to areas in the tropics.

Aetiology is unknown but likely to be infective cause

17
Q

How does Tropical Sprue present?

A

Diarrhoea
Steatorrhea
Megaloblastic anaemia.

18
Q

Why does tropical sprue cause malabsorption?

A

Villous atrophy

Malabsorption of B12 and fat especially

19
Q

Treatment for tropical sprue

A

Folic acid and tetracycline

Correct nutritional deficiencies
