Making Insoluble Salts Flashcards
1
Q
Are common salts of sodium, potassium and ammonium soluble or insoluble?
A
They are soluble
2
Q
Are nitrates soluble or insoluble?
A
Soluble
3
Q
Are common chlorides soluble or insoluble?
A
They are soluble
Except silver Chloride and lead Chloride.
4
Q
Are common Sulfates soluble or insoluble?
A
They are soluble
Except lead,barium and calcium Sulfate
5
Q
Are common carbonates and hydroxides soluble or insoluble ?
A
Insoluble
Expect for sodium, potassium and ammonium
6
Q
How do you make an is Insoluble salt?
A
Use a precipitation reaction.
Pick two soluble salts and react the, to get the insoluble salt
7
Q
What is the method for making insoluble salts?
A
- 1 spatula of lead nitrate , add water, used deionised water. Shake it to make it all react. Do the same with sodium chloride
- Pour both in a beaker and stir
- Put in filter paper into a filter funnel and a conical flask
- Put the contents into the middle
- Pour more water onto the paper to make sure all precipitate is collected
- Rinse the contents your left with soluble sodium nitrate
- Scrape the lead chloride onto the filter paper and leave to dry.
