Major Enzymes Of DNA Replication Flashcards
Unwinds DNA helix
Helipads
Stabilizes single stranded DNA and prevents the two strands at the replication fork from reforming
Single stranded binding protein
Avoids twisting of DNA ahead of the replication fork (to the right), by cutting DNA, turning it, and rejoining it
Topoisomerase
Assembled RNA primers in the 5’ to 3’ direction to initiate a new DNA strand
Promase
Main replication enzyme in E. coli; extends the RNA primers by adding DNA nucleotides to it
DNA polymerase III
Escherichia coli enzyme that uses its 5’ to 3’activity to remove the RNA previously synthesized by Okazaki fragment, replaces the RNA nucleotide with DNA nucleotides
DNA polymerase I
Tethers DNA polymerase III to the DNA template, making replication more efficient
Sliding clamp
Seals nicks left between adjacent RNA primers replace with DNA
DNA Ligase
