What is component knowledge?
The overall knowledge/ elements needed to be able to complete a task.
What is composite knowledge?
This is when all the elements are put together to complete on overall task
What is substantive knowledge?
Everything related to one specific activity/ ability.
Knowledge produced by a specific subject.
All the concepts that underpin one specific thing
What is disciplinary knowledge?
How we gain the overall knowledge

Driven by determined and skilled leaders that put scientific enquiry at the heart of lessons

Strong leadership and skilled teachers generally give young people a profound knowledge and understanding of science
What may be the problem with a curriculum that focuses only on substantive knowledge?
The children would not understand the components behind the overall task, meaning that they could not apply their skills elsewhere
This leads to pupils developing a naive understanding of the status of scientific knowledge
What may be the problem with a curriculum that focuses only on disciplinary knowledge?
The children would not understand the end result of all the skills needed, they will just know the specific components, and not out them all together
How can teachers encourage enthusiasm and natural curiosity in children?

How is cross curricular learning important?
provides a meaningful approach in which students can use knowledge learned in one context within other contexts
Can increase pupils’ motivation for learning and improve their level of engagement
allows teachers the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on their teaching and be imaginative and innovative in their curriculum planning
