Q

Describe a fuse and uses:

A
  • designed to stop too much current flowing
  • made of thin piece of metal wire in ceramic case, melts if too much current
  • Common fuses = 3A, 5A, 13A

16
Q

What do RCCB do

A

Measure the current in the live and neutral wire

If they don’t measure the same it will switch the circuit off

Residual current breakers

17
Q

What do ELCB do?

A

It will trip when any current is detected passing through the earth wire

Earth leakage circuit

18
Q

What does the earth wire do for safety?

A

It provides a low resistance path for the current to flow - current increases and will increase beyond the fuse rating - fuse melts and breaks circuit
