Context
The concept of localisation of function is central to this study as it illustartes a role of teh hippocampus in navigation. The hippocampus appears to provide a cognitive map. The hcnagein volune and density of teh hippocampus is knwon as neural plasticty.

Natural (Quasi) Experiment
Aim
To invesitgate wether there si a difference in hippocampal volume between people who do and do not have extenisve nagivational experience
Correntional analysis
A correlational analysis was carried out which consideered the variables of teh hippocampul volume and time spent as a taxi driver
Partipants
Experimental group consisted of 16 left handed particpnt within ages 32 and 62. Their experience as a taxi driver 1.5 years and 42 years. The time spent with teh knowledge was an average 2 years

Left handed males
Those who are under 32 and above 62

Those with health problems

Method
Structural MRI scans were obtained. 16 right-handed male London taxi drivers participated; all had been driving for more than 1.5 years. Scans of 50 healthy right-handed males who did not drive taxis were included for comparison. The mean age did not differ between the two groups.
Results
The amount of grey matter in the hippocampus of taxi drivers was significantly different from that of teh control group
Control had a greater anterior hippocampal volume than teh taxi drivers
The posterior hippocampal volume of taxi drivers was ssignificantyl greater in volume
Resullts of correlation
A significant relatikonship was found between time spent as a taxi driver and right posterior hippocampal volume

This study demonstrates rteh platscity of teh hippocmapus in repsosne to enviornamentla needs
