Blakemoore and Cooper Flashcards
Aim
To investigate the physiological and behavioural to a limited visual experinece
Whether the brain plasticty occurs due to experiecnes rather than nature
Procedure
The kittens were placed in a dark room for 2 weeks. The exepriment was a larborqato9ry experiment and an independetn measurss design. After 2 weeks, the kittens were placed in cylinder on glass surfaces within the cylinder there is no corners or edges. For 5 weeks these kittens spent 5 hours a day in these cylinder
After 5 weeks, the kitten got taken out of teh cylinder and was placed in a well lit adn well furnished room. An observation took place. Observation included a kittens ability to walk, judge distances of objects to touch thema and tehir startle reposnses to a vertically or horizontally held rod.
After 7.5 months, biological studies were made on the nuerons to see if tehy are orientation species or if tehy arre monocular or binocular
Results
They moved mainly by touch and not sight
They did not show a startle reposnew when a object was brought quickly towards them
Their visual defects were permanent as tehy were bumping into stationary objects adn were making jerky head movemnts
Conclusions
As there were no evidence that area of teh cortex ws silent or that the area of teh cortical cells were missing suggests that teh changes werre not teh co0nsequence of degenration
The difference between teh differently reared kittens suggest that neurons changed tehri orientaiton accroding to teh stimualktion taht they resceived
