Magnetism Final Flashcards
What do magnetic field lines show and how do you draw them?
the lines go from north to south and negatie to positive.
What is a magnetic domain and how do they make material magnetic?
A magnetic domain is region in which the magnetic fields of atoms are grouped together and aligned.
What is the difference between the geographic and magnetic poles?
The geographic poles; which are the points on the earth’s surface defining the axis of the earth’s rotation. The geographic poles are fixed ansd stable.
- The magnetic poles; which are definde where the earth’s magnetic field is perpindicular to the earth’s surface. At the north magnetic pole, the south end of a freely moving compass needle would point straight down. Because of drift in the earth’s magnetic field, the magnetic pole slowly drifts in position
How does electricity cause magnetism?
Each electron is surrounded by a force called an electric field. When an electron moves, it creates a second field—a magnetic field. When electrons are made to flow in a current through a conductor
What is the difference between a generator and a motor?
A motor is an electro magnetic device that converts electrical energy into rotating mechanical force. So you supply electricity to it and it will give you mechanical force as the output. A generator is just the opposite It converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.
What does a capacitor do?
A capacitor is an electrical device that can store energy in the electric field between a pair of closely spaced conductors (called ‘plates’).
How do you increase the strength of a solenoid?
- By increasing number of turn.2. By increasing amount of current.3. By binding the solenoid in magnetic string.
How do you increase the amount of current created by a generator?
add more current
