Electricity Final Flashcards
What are the units used when measuring voltage, current and resistance?
Voltage is measured in volts and labeled with a V
Current is measured in ampers and labeled with amps or an A
Resistance is measured in oms and labeled with an omega sign
What is the difference between voltage in a series and parallel circuit?
Answer In a DC parallel circuit, equal voltage is applied to each device that is connected in parallel. In a DC series circuit, the sum of the voltage drops across each device connected in series equals the source voltage.
How do you draw the circuits when using a multimeter to measure voltage, current and resistance?
Voltage: the black wire goes to COM and the red wire goes to OmegaMA with the dial to 20
Current: Wired in a series and must inclip the circuit to include meter, connerced to 10A and COM and the dial to 10A
Resistance: wired without a battery, just touch the wires. red wire is in omega10A and the black wire is in COM
Using Ohm’s Law, how do you find the amount of voltage, current or resistance?
V=IR (triangle trick)
What is the difference in current, voltage and resistance in a one or two bulb circuit?
One Bulb: Current: more Voltage: more Resistance: less OPPOSITE FOR A 2 BULB CIRCUIT
What subatomic particle moves in the circuit and in what direction?
electrons and from negative to positive.
How does changing length change resistance?
the longer it is the less resistance there is
What is a benefit of a parallel circuit over a series circuit?
In a parallel circuit, if one of the branches of the circuit fails, the other branches continue to work. for example, christmas lights or ceiling lights.
How does changing diameter change resistance?
there is less resistance when there is a bigger diameter
