magnetism Flashcards
what is the motor effect
how is magnetic field produced with wire
a magnetic field is produced when a current moves through a wire.
arrow shows direction of current ( magnetic field around wire)
when the wire is placed in a magnetic field the magnetic field of the wire interacts with the magnetic field between the magnets. This means the wire will experience a force in the upwards direction causing wire to move upwards.
can calculate size of magnetic force by F= magnetic flux density x current x length. this applies to a wire which is at right angles to the magnetic field. magnetic flux density is measure of the strength of magnetic field.
what is magnetic flux measured in
Tesla (T)
what is current measure in
amperes (A)
what is length measured in
meters (m)
what is lemmings left hand rule
place thumb , and 2 next to fingers all at right angles.
thuMb - motion - direction
First finger - field
seCond finger - current
if the conductor is parallel to magnetic field it will not experience a force - has to be at right angles to magnetic field.
