(Act 2 Scene 3) “Most sacrilegious murder”
Shows how horrifying it was that someone killed the king which can be shown by the use of alliteration.
Themes-Ambition as Macduff lacks it witch is good
Context- Divine right if kings
(Act 4 Scene 3) “O nation miserable,with untitled tyrant”
Personification of nation miserable shows that Scotland has become a terrible and miserable county from Macbeths leadership.
Theme-Kingship
Context- Great chain of being
(Act 4 Scene 3) “All my pretty chickens and their dam at one fell swoop?”
Saying how Macbeth is an evil person for killing his family which he calls his pretty chickens. Gives Macduff a reason to kill him.
Theme- ambition as Macduff has seen that Macbeth has become corrupt from the supernatural.
(Act 5 scene 8) “Macduff was from his mothers womb untimely ripped”
Macduff reveals to Macbeth that he was born to sea section after Macbeth said that no one born from their mother could kill him. Declarative sentence tells Macbeth that his time is done.
Theme- Supernatural as Macbeth now realises that the supernatural mislead him.
Context- Jacobean’s distrust in witches
(Act 5 Scene 8) “ The usurpers cursed head… Hail king of Scotland!”
After killing Macbeth he goes to Malcolm and tells everyone to hail the king instead of being king himself. Shows that he has no ambition and wants to restore the natural order. Shown from exclamatory sentence.
Theme- ambition as it shows that it is corrupting
Context- respecting the Divine right of kings.
