macbeth Flashcards
'’Is this a ______ which i see before me’
'’Is this a dagger which i see before me’
-These could be psychological or they could be premonitions and Macbeth is feeling the supernatural.
A supernatural theme is when we see Banquo’s ghost.
‘‘never shake thy ____ lock at me’’
'’never shake thy gory lock at me’’
we could argue that this hallucination is a symptom of Macbeth’s mind becoming more and more unbalanced because of the guilt he feels.
'’come you ______/That tend on _______ thoughts, _____ me here’
'’come you sprits/That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here’
contact with the supernatural actually cased the whole drama to begin because Macbeth met the witches which’d planted a seed of desire and want.
we see the the witches at the start of the play ‘thunder’ and ‘lighting’ which can suggest there have a big part in the play
In act 5 Macbeth repeatably calls for his armour and shield what could this symbolise?
his attempts to take back control
'’Here may you see the ______’’
Macduff tell this to Macbeth inferring he is going to shop his head and put it upon a pole just like Macbeth did to MacDonald the traitor.
'’Give me my ______’’
'’Give me my armour’’ this is said repeatedly by Macbeth in Act 5
.this could symbolise his attempts to take back control
-his armour representing his masculine power
-when he was a fighter he had control winning all the battles but since he has killed Duncan he has hidden away and sent killer to do his dirty work.
'’Before my _______, i throw my warlike _______’’
'’Before my body, i throw my warlike shield’’ audience get a hint of Macbeths old bravery in battle. possible hoping his old bravery and honour can save him.
what happened on the day Duncan died? (to Duncan’s houses)
the houses were normally ‘‘beauteous and swift’’ but now there wild as their ‘‘make war with mankind’’ and the houses eat each other
also at the night of Duncan’s death Lennox states the night was ‘unruly’
people are predicting that bad things are going to happen
