How is an aircraft towed on soft ground?
By a towing bridle on the main wheels and steered by a towing arm
What direction should nose wheel aircraft be towed on soft ground?
Forward or backwards
What speed is allowed for an aircraft being towed with doors open?
10km/h
Where would a auxiliary jack be placed?
On each side of the centre fuselage
What are the four types of jacks?
- bottle jack
- bipod jack (3 legs, like a quad but with one removed)
- tripod jack
- quadrapod jack
Where should jacking take place?
In a hangar out of wind (if in wind then point aircraft into the wind)
What is knocking?
When combustion of air/fuel mixture goes wrong which causes high pressure
What are the different grades of aviation fuels?
80-red
100-green
100LL(low lead)-blue
Can turbine engines operate on aviation fuel?
Yes but for limited time and decreases effiency
What must you never do with turbine fuels?
Put it into piston engines
What pressure do you refuel at?
As high as 50psi (1000 gallons a minute)
What pressure do you refuel at?
11psi
What is meant by cold-soak?
When the aircraft is parked outside in temperatures lower than freezing with no power supply
What are the different types of ice and snow formation?
- hoar frost
- rime ice
- glaze ice
- debris ice
- pack snow
