Q

How to find the weighted mean, x bar?

A
  1. Separate the parts.
  2. Multiply their mass by how far away their centre of mass is from the hinge.
  3. Add these together. They are equal to the total mass multiplied by x bar.

Q

How to find the centre of mass of a 2d object?

A

Use a graph and separate the distance to the centre of mass into x and y. There will be two weighted means, x bar and y bar.

Q

For an object standing on a surface in equilibrium, where do the weight and the resultant contact force act?

A

Along the same line, the centre of mass. The centre of mass is directly above the point where the resultant contact force can act.
