M2 - Prosencephalon Flashcards
central sulcus
separates frontal from parietal lobe
lateral sulcus
separates the parietal and frontal lobes from the temporal lobe
parieto-occipital sulcus
separates the parietal lobe from the occipital lobe
longitudinal sulcus
separates the right hemisphere from the left hemisphere
lateral (dorsolateral) perspective/surface
looking at the outside of the brain from the side; looking at just the right or the left hemisphere
medial (midsagittal) perspective/surface
looking at the inside of the brain, the side created by cutting the brain in half along the longitudinal sulcus
inferior perspective/surface
looking at the brain from underneath
important features of the frontal lobe: lateral surface
precentral, superior, middle, inferior, and frontal gyri
prefrontal cortex
most anterior portion of the brain;
functionally involved with cognition (executive control), personality, decision making, and social behavior
prosencephalon
- the forebrain
- divides into telencephalon and diencephalon
- includes the cerebrum (white and gray matter)
telencephalon
FOREBRAIN
- includes the cerebral cortex (gray matter)
