Agrammatism Syntactic deficit
characterized by omission of function words and grammatical inflections; semantic aspects of language remain intact
Difficulty accessing a word from one’s mental vocabulary
Anomia
Occurs around 10 months in a normally developing child; infant use of stress and intonations where voice is attempting to sound like adult speech patterns
Vocalizations
The use, function, or purpose of communication as it is used in a social context; also known as pragmatic language
Social Language
referring to a set of words the child knows. Two types: receptive - words child understands and expressive - words child uses.
Vocabulary
disorders that involve the semantics/word meanings; difficulty understanding vocabulary
Semantic expressive disorders
difficulty with the production of speech sounds and with associated rules for the sound system
Phonological Disorder
a speech act or utterance that produces an effect on the listener, intended or not.
Perlocutionary act
It refers to a disorder in a group of basic developmental functions including socialization and communication.
PDD An acronym for: Pervasive Development Disorder.

Metapragmatics
interpretation of a message using the entire message to decipher the meaning – a person understands a message by using all knowledge and experiences

Invented words that have no true meaning but that adhere to the phonological rules of a given language

neurological impairment affecting an individual’s ability to program, organize, plan, and execute movements of the speech muscles.
