M07 - Data Management Flashcards
What are the regulations that govern data protection?
- Data Protection Act
- Freedom of Information Act (FOI)
What would you do when someone asks you for information on a project that you are working?
Determine who the person is and if they should be given access to the information
How do I dispose of any information?
Use an industrial shredding company
What are the benefits of Dropbox and other cloud based systems?
- Easy access
- Secure
- Can give certain people access to specific folders
How do you ensure that you comply with data protection legislation?
- Only keep the information I need
- Not passing on personal and sensitive information
- Holding information securely
- Limiting access to information
- Deleting obsolete information
How do you manage data?
Create & Capture Share, Collaborate & Control Index, Manage & Store Access, Retrieve & Distribute Repurpose Archive & Delete
What particular data management software have you used and what others are you aware of?
- OneDrive
- SharePoint
What is BIM (Building Information Modelling)?
- BIM is software for creating a digital model of an asset modelling it in digital form which has data attached to it.
- Building Information Modelling: it is a rich information model, consisting of potentially multiple data sources, elements of which can be shared across all stakeholders and maintained across the life of a building from inception to recycling/demolition.
What are the advantages of BIM?
- Improved design co-ordination: Clashes are detected and resolved in the virtual environment before construction starts thus making contract programmes and costs more robust
- Improved Client Satisfaction: Client can view the model and can identify changes which should be made to improve the operation
- Sustainability: Can calculate carbon dioxide efficiencies, running costs and waste analyses can be simulated with specialist plug-in applications using data embedded in the model
- Quantities: can be extracted from BIM and associated parametric data, which can be used for cost modelling and optioneering
- Change management: becomes a full picture, more considered process allowing long-term lifecycle implications to be considered alongside design and construction impacts
- Construction sequencing: test working methodologies to find the optimal and safest solution
- Prefabrication: Enables earlier consideration
- Programme: more considered & focused on content – logistics & sequencing such as just-in time deliveries
- Collective understanding of design intent: increased collaboration across the project team and supply chain
Please explain the Government Security Classification policy
- HMG information assets may be classified into three types: OFFICIAL, SECRET and TOP SECRET.
- On FS most of the information was marked official and was sent via an encrypted file transfer.
Name some features of the GDPR regulations
- Lawfulness, fairness and transparency
- Purpose limitation
- Data minimisation
- Accuracy
- Storage limitation
- Integrity and confidentiality (security)
- Accountability
How does AECOM store cost data?
- AECOM uses an EDMS system (electronic data management system)
- Contributes towards ISO:9001 2008 accreditation as part of the audit process.
- Allows for data to be stored in an online, secure server to prevent losses.
- Check in check out process ensures that documents and edits are properly controlled.
What are the fines for GDPR?
- Maximum fine of €20 million (about £18 million)
- 4% of annual global turnover – whichever is greater
What levels of BIM are there?
- Level 0 - Unmanaged CAD
- Level 1 - Managed CAD in 2D and 3D
- Level 2 - Collaberative 3D modelling
- Level 3 - Yet to be defined - predicted to include cost and lifecycle elements
What is GDPR?
- General Data Protection Regulation
- Implemented 2018
