what are the sub types of lymphoma?

A

◦ anatomic site (e.g., multicentric, GI, cutaneous)
◦ location of neoplastic cells within the lymph node (e.g., diffuse, follicular, T zone)
◦ cell morphology (small, large, granular)
◦ cell type (T-cell, B-cell, NK)
◦ biological behaviour (indolent, aggressive)

there are two immunophenotypes of lymphomas - T cell and B cell which has the better prognosis?

  • T cell - Terrible prognosis (but treatable in some cases)
    ◦ CD8 cytotoxic T cell (killer T cell)
    ◦ CD4 T cell
  • B cell - Better prognosis

how are lymphoma staged inthe dog?

A

Stage I - Single Node or lymphoid tissue in single organ (excluding bone marrow)
Stage II - Regional involvement of lymph nodes (+/- tonsils)
Stage III - Lymph nodes affected both sides of diaphragm (eg submandibular and popliteal)
Stage IV - Liver and spleen involvement (need to FNA despite the appearance of the spleen, can look horrible and be normal or look normal and be metastasised)
Stage V - Blood, bone marrow or non-lymphoid tissue affected

how is lymphoma staged inthe cat?

A

Stage I – Single tumour or anatomic area
Stage II
* Single tumour with regional involvement,
* 2 nodal areas on same side of diaphragm,
* resectable GI tumour with/without regional LN involvement,
* 2 extra nodal sites
Stage III – 2 single tumours across the diaphragm, non-resectable intra-abdominal disease, paraspinal or epidural tumours
Stage IV - Involvement of liver or spleen
Stage V – Involvement of CNS or bone marrow
