lymphocytes Flashcards
quick rundown on immunity first
Humoral Immunity - this involves the use of antibodies produced by the B CELLS to attack any invading foreign bodies like bacteria, viruses etc. Production of memory cells also takes place for a faster response in case of a second infection.
Cell mediated immunity- this involves the destruction of self cells damaged by mutations or infected by viruses. this form of immunity includes cells like cytotoxic T CELLS.
which one of these are PRIMARY sites for lymphocyte production?
a) thymus
b) spleen
c) lymph nodes
d) Bursa of Fabricius
e) GI tract
f) 2 of these
g) three of these
f) 2 of these
Thymus and Bursa, hence their name B and T lymphocytes
which one of these are SECONDARY sites for lymphocyte production?
a) thymus
b) spleen
c) lymph nodes
d) Bursa of Fabricius
e) GI tract
f) 2 of these
g) 3 of these
g) 3 of these
spleen
lymph nodes
GI tract
which one is the most accurate match?
a) Bursa/bone marrow = maturation
b) plasma cells = T cells
c) more T cells than B cells
d) suppressor cells = B cells
c) more T cells than B cells
bone marrow is just development for lymphocytes
b) and d) are vice vesa
1) T cells are more common than B cells in the blood and 2) they also mature in the nodules of lymph nodes.
a) 1 is true and 2 is false
b) 2 is true and 1 is false
c) both are true
d) both are false
a) 1 is true and 2 is false
Only B cells mature in nodules
T or F
Mature B lymphocytes have a smaller nucleus and larger cytoplasm than T cells.
False, they’re identical
1) T and B lymphocytes stem cells originate in the bone marrow 2) and ultimately may end up in lymphoid tissue.
a) 1 is true and 2 is false
b) 2 is true and 1 is false
c) both are true
d) both are false
c) both are true
Which is false about B cells?
a) usually inactive
b) formation of stem cells to B lymphocyte happens in bone marrow
c) life span is 1 month
d) enters lymphoid organs to give rise to more identical cells
e) all are true
c) life span is 1 month
life span is 2-3 weeks
which one(s) has plasmalemma-bound immunoglobulin receptors?
a) T lymphocytes
b) B lymphocytes
c) both
b) B lymphocytes
a) __ lymphocytes are concerned with viral/ bacterial infections which are intracellular.
b) __ lymphocytes are concerned with foreign bodies chiilin in our system (extracellular).
a) T
b) B
After an invader is marked with an antigen, what is the correct course of the cells destruction?
a) use of perforins
b) phagocytes
c) destruction of DNA
d) A and B
e) A and C
d) A and B
Which is false about helper T cells?
a) otherwise known as CD4+ T cells
b) release cytokines
c) allows B cells to differentiate into plasma cells to release more antibodies when both bound to the same antigen
d) sends signal to Killer T cells to kill cell
e) all are true
e) all are true
Which is false about killer T cells?
a) otherwise known as CD8+ T cells
b) releases perforins
c) releases granzymes
d) use antibodies on their surface to identify their target
e) all are correct
d) use antibodies on their surface to identify their target
they have plasmalemmal surface markers (clusters of differentiation, CDs)
