What investigations should you ask to add on to a lymph node examination?

Answer 1

Swallow test - check if it is node or thyroid nodule

USS - gives you the shape of the nodes (normal shape doesn’t indicate for more tests)

CT/MRI (if patient has dental amalgam, since it reflects the xrays)/PET

Biopsy

Refer to ENT neck lump clinic

Question 2

As well as the external neck, what should you examine in suspected lymphoma?

Answer 2

Oral cavity - gums, teeth, under tongue, lateral tongue, hard and soft palate

Oropharynx - tonsils (asymmetry), tongue base

Larynx and hypopharynx - by flexible endoscopy
