Lymphatics Flashcards
Where are T and B cells made?
Bone marrow
What type of cells leave the bone marrow and where do they go?
T cells leave bone marrow and go to the thymus where they mature
What cells stay in the bone marrow?
B cells stay in bone marrow and mature
What to B cells lodge into?
Lymph nodes
What do B cells circulate among?
Lymphoid tissues
What are the first lymphoid organs?
Bone marrow and thymus
What are the second lymphoid organs?
Spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes and peyers patches
What does GALT stand for?
Gut Associated lymphoid tissue
What does BALT stand for?
Bronchiolar Associated Lymphoid Tissue
What does MALT stand for?
Mucosa Associated Lymphoid Tissue
Why do small lymphatic vessels join?
They join to form larger vessels which pass through nodes
What do nodes contain?
Lymphocytes and macrophages
What way do nodes move?
Move from periphery towards the midline and eventually upper thorax
What do lymph remove?
Damaged cells and pathogens
What are the lymphatic ducts?
Lumbar trunks, Cistema Chyli, Thoracic duct and right and left lymphatic ducts
