Lymphatics Flashcards
Breast Lymph Nodes drainage
(5) PIIAA
- Parasternal (medial breast bilaterally)
- Inguinal (inferior breast)
- Infraclavicular (superior breast)
- Axillary (predominant drainage)
- Apical axillary (superior breast and other axillary nodes)
Parietal (wall) Thoracic Lymph Nodes drainage
(4) IPPD
- Intercostal (lateral & posterior thoracic wall)
- Parasternal (medial aspect of breast, upper abdominal wall, anterior pleura & esophagus)
- Posterior mediastinal (middle septum, pleura & esophagus)
- Diaphragmatic (liver, pleura, & diaphragm)
Visceral (organs) Thoracic Lymph Nodes drainage
(4) PPTB
- Pulmonary (lung)
- Paratracheal (tracheobronchial nodes)
- Tracheobronchial (inferior & superior drainage of bronchopulmonary & posterior mediastinal nodes, trachea, & heart)
- Bronchopulmonary (pulmonary nodes & bronchi)
Cisterna chyli
Receives lymph from preaortic and retroaortic lymph nodes and lower extremities and provides origin to the thoracic duct
Thoracic duct
Drains nodes of the right and left lower extremities, pelvis, abdomen, left thorax, left upper extremity, and left head and neck (via cisterna chyli, left jugular, left subclavian, and left bronchomediastinal trunks)
Lymphatic trunk
Bronchomediastinal (R & L)
-drains parasternal and thoracic visceral nodes
Right lymphatic duct
drains nodes of the right thorax, right upper extremity, and right head and neck. Forms at union of right jugular, right subclavian, and right bronchomediastinal trunks
Lumbar Trunk
- Deep Inguinal (LE)
- External Iliac (Pelvis)
- Internal Iliac (Pelvis) is independent but drains to common iliac
- Common Iliac (Pelvis)
- Lateral Aortic (Abdomen)
- Lumbar Trunk (left or right) (Abdomen)
- Cisterna chyli (Abdomen)
