Lymphatic Trunks Etc Flashcards
Name the trunks emptying into the cisterna chyli
Right and left lumbar trunk
Intestinal trunk
Name the trunks forming the right lymphatic duct
Right subclavian
R jugular trunk
R bronchomediastinal trunk..
What is meant by the term “area”
A skin area= capillaries ( drain into precollector)
What is meant by the term zone?
A skin zone= precollectors ( drain into vessel)
What is meant by the term territory?
A skin territory is a group of lymph collectors ( borders of these make up watersheds)
What is meant by the term anastomoses?
Anastomoses are inactive vessels that can be activated when necessary.
They are additional bypass vessels between two collectors.
There are lots of them between two watersheds. Lots of anastomoses between territories.
They can be activated by pressure changes in the LS caused by stasis ( congestion) in the efferent vessels.
What is a watershed?
Watersheds are notional lines drawn on the basis of the different directions of lymphatic flow.
They relate only to the skin and superficial not deep.
Name the watersheds
Sagittal watershed
Horizontal watershed
Upper horizontal watershed ( border of clavicle)
Gluteal watershed
The thoracic duct arises from…
The cisterna chyliand travels through the diaphragm via the inferior vena cava
Why are lymph nodes different to other lymphoid tissue?
They have a connective tissue capsule.
The term anastomosis in the LVS refers to…
Connecting vessels between collector vessels
