Lymphatic system Flashcards
all of it
2 lymphatic ducts of the body:
- Right lymphatic ducts
- Thoracic duct
collects lymph from the right upper limb and the right side of the head and chest. (right sides of head and neck, right side of the thorax, right upper extremity)
a larger vessel and collects lymph from the rest of the body. - largest lymphaic vessel oin the human body.

Function of thoracic duct
transport lympg back into the circulatory system.
interstitial fluid is collected by lymph capillaries -> lymh moves through lymphatic vessels to lymph nodes -> lymphatic vessels merge to create the lymphatic ducts -> lymphatic ducts drain into the venous system
where does the right lymphatic duct drain into?
into the right venous angle
at the right venous angle, 2 veins join to form the right brachiocephalic vein, which ultimately carried deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
these 2 veins are:
- right internal jugular vein (IJV), drains blood from the brain, neck and face.
- right subclavian vein: drains blood from the arm, shoulder, part of the chest
where does the thoracic duct drain into?
into the left venous angle
