lymphatic system Flashcards
What is the function of lympghaic system?
Transports excess waste (that blood cannot carry) away from tissues, adds extra lymphocytes and leucocytes to the blood.
How does the lympahtic system connect with the transport of blood?
lympathic system helps removie fluid waste and toxins from tissue that cant pass into capillaries.
What are lymphocytes?
Lymphocytes are another type of white blood cells which help the bodys immune system, leucocytes tell lymphocytes to activate,
What is the role lymphatic capillaries and their structure?
As not all material can pass through capillary walls, as the internal pressure of capillaries are to high. Lymph fluid left enters the lymphatic capillaries which have larger pores, containing excess fluid, foreign matter CO2, and damaged cells
What is the function of lymph nodes?
Filter large particles and foreign substances (tumour cells, damaged/dead cells, large proteins molecules).
2.produce new lymphocytes and anitobodies.
what is the structure of lymph nodes?
Small oval shaped structures made up of lymphatic tissue and surrounded by white fibrous tissue
Lymphatic vessels pass through lymph nodes
What is the function of lymphatic vessels?
collect lymph from capillaries and transport lymph around the lymphatic system
Lymphatic capillaries unite to form larger tubes called lymphatic vessels
Flow into lymph nodes.
what is the structure of the lymphatic vessels?
More valves than blood vessels to prevent back flow
Thinner walls consisting of: Outer layer – fibrous tissue
Middle layer – muscular and elastic tissue Inner layer – endothelial cells
