lymphatic / digestive system Flashcards
purpose of lymphatic system
return excess fluid in between cells
lymph
blood like fluid but without plateletes that helps with nutrient distribution
4 functions of lymphatic system
destruction of bacteria and foreign substances, immune reponses (antibody production), return interstatial fluid to bloodstream, prevent accumulation of tissue fluid and filtered proteins by draining into permeable capalaries in connective tissue
GI tract
entire digestive tube
six processess of digestive system
ingestion in mouth, movement along digestive tract, mechanical digestion, chemical digestion, absorbtion into circulatory and lymphatic systems, elimination of waste
When food is in GI tract, it is considered
outside of body
epiglotis
prevents food from entering lungs
bolus
mouthful of food after swallowed
persitalses
waves of contractions to move bolus along epiglotis
chyme
thick suspension of food fluid
small intestine
primary site for ingetstion
segments of small intestine
duodenum, jejunum, ileium
bile
liver digest fat in chyme
pancreatic enzymes
digest proteins and carbs
most absorbtion occurs through
villi and microvilli
