Lymph Vessel Flashcards
What blood vessel is involved in lymph vessel exchange?
Capillary
What surrounds the capillaries?
Tissue fluid
Where isbthe lymph vessel located?
Next to the capillary
Where is the sphincter?
At the end of the arteriole
Why is the hydrostatic pressure high in capillaries?
Capillaries are very narrow
Blood under high pressure in arteries
How is tissue fluid created?
High hydrostatic pressure in capillaries forced out small molecules- ultrafiltration
What molecules are too large to leave the capillary?
RBCs
Large proteins
How high is the water potential at the beginning of the capillary?
Low water potential
High hydrostatic pressure
Net movement is out of capillary
What happens as the hydrostatic pressure falls along the capillary?
Tissue fluid re-enters capillary.
Not waste like CO2
Why does water potential gradient increase along the capillary?
Due to remaining plasma proteins
What happens as the water potential gradient increases?
Water enters capillaries
Other molecules enter by diffusion
Where does the lymph vessel lead?
Lymphatic system
What happens to the waste in the lymphatic system?
Drians into blood in the subclavian veins in the neck
